Reid Goodwin Wins Major Victory for Injured Home Health Worker

Reid Goodwin, PLC is proud to announce a big win for our client. The Virginia Court of Appeals ruled in her favor on July 8, 2025, after a long legal fight.

Our client worked as a home health aide, helping elderly people in their homes with eating, bathing, taking medicine, and getting to doctor visits. On January 6, 2022, she was hurt at work when she fell down stairs covered with loose, worn carpet. She badly injured her knee and needed surgery.

The defense tried to deny her claim, saying she wasn’t really an employee and that her injury didn’t happen because of her work. Our legal team fought back hard through discovery and three levels of hearings – winning at the Deputy Commissioner level, the Workers’ Compensation Commission, and finally the Virginia Court of Appeals.

Lead attorney Brad Goodwin worked closely with attorneys Brody Reid and Greer Belcher to build a strong case for our client.

“Our client worked helping others in their homes when she was hurt. We were honored to help fight for her when her case was wrongly denied,” said attorney Brad Goodwin. This victory shows that home health workers are real employees who deserve protection when they get hurt on the job. Reid Goodwin, PLC fights for injured workers throughout Virginia, and no case is too hard when we are fighting for what’s right.
